On May 16, 2009 the Art Institute of Chicago will open its Modern Wing. The Wing was designed by Renzo Piano, the Italian architect credited with the design of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and will include educational spaces, permanent galleries, temporary shows, and even a restaurant. The wing faces a spectacular view of Millennium Park, while a 620-foot bridge, called The Nichols Bridgeway, will connect the museum to the park.

Joshua Allen Harris

By themaven | January 13, 2009

Joshua Allen Harris, a New York artist, creates inflatable street art out of shopping bags and trash bags.  Subway and exhaust air inflate the bags to look like giant animals rising from the air ducts on the sidewalk.  The dynamic nature of each installation means you’ll never have the same viewing experience twice.

Objectified: A Documentary Film by Gary Hustwit

By themaven | January 11, 2009

“Objectified is a feature-length independent documentary about industrial design. It’s a look at the creativity at work behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets. It’s about the people who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a daily basis. It’s about personal expression, identity, consumerism, and sustainability. It’s about our relationship to mass-produced objects and, by extension, the people who design them.”

Objectified will be released in March 2009.
